Who are we?

The Center for Women’s Human Rights (CEDEHM for its acronym in Spanish) is a civil association based in Chihuahua, Chihuahua, Mexico. It was founded in 2005 and opened to the public in 2006.

We are a lay and feminist human rights organization committed to justice, equality, and the dignity of people, who believe in democracy and horizontality as guiding principles of our work.

To accompany comprehensively, with a differentiated and multidisciplinary approach, people who have been victims of human rights violations to access justice and contribute to the generation of structural changes to achieve the full validity of human rights in Chihuahua, with an impact at the national and international levels.

We strive for a democratic, just, and egalitarian society, in which the fundamental rights and freedoms of all people are promoted, respected, protected, and guaranteed to live in conditions of full dignity.

Accompaniment

Accompaniment to girls, boys and women, victims of gender-based violence

Violence against women is often considered private in character so it is rarely reported to the authorities. Most cases are not formally investigated, tried, or sanctioned by justice administration systems, so they remain in impunity.

Accompaniment to relatives of missing persons

The disappearance of people and the permanent torture that this phenormena poses for their relatives is a problem repeatedly ignored in the context of the crisis of violence in Mexico during the past several years.

Accompaniment to human rights defenders at risk

In the state of Chihuahua human rights defenders constitute a broad, diverse, persistent and experienced citizen participation movement. In some cases, its work has been a national pioneer.

Education

In the CEDEHM, we conceive education as a process of collective, inclusive, plural, active construction, which allows us to cement a critcal understanding of reality and a transformative desire.

Psychosocial Accompaniment

The psychosocial area of the CEDEHM, under the approach of the theory of the Jesuit Priest Martín Baró, aims to generate safe spaces for individual reflection, family, or community for people who are victims of serious human rights violations, where the processes of recovery and resistance to psychosocial trauma are promoted from the new meaning of identity and recognition of personal and collective resources.
