Chihuahua, Chih., February 22, 2022.- Today, the sentence against José Alberto Caro Márquez was made public; he has been convicted of domestic violence and aggravated rape.
In 2018, when the events occurred, the defendant assaulted and raped his partner at the time; the resolution by the control judge was decisive in triggering a situation that led to the complete re-victimization of the victim, promoting a narrative that presented the acts of rape as a “make-up sex”.
As part of the legal strategy, the necessary appeals were promoted to obtain a favorable sentence, which recognizes the situation of violence and its effects on both the woman and her son and daughter and also acknowledges the public scrutiny the victim was subjected to and credits the publication of the judgment as part of the comprehensive reparation of the damage.
As contemplated by the General Victims Law: the public disclosure of the truth, in some cases constitutes a measure of satisfaction. In this specific case, the publication of the sentence constitutes an important part of the reparation requested by the victim and her representatives.
It is important for society to learn of the legal consequences of violence against women, as part of the measures that contribute to ensuring that similar acts are not repeated.
