Open call for “Expressing hope”

Chihuahua, Chih., May 6th, 2022. Today, in the framework of the “Justice for the Disappeared in Chihuahua” program funded by USAID, which seeks to make visible the memories of the families of the victims of disappearance in the state of Chihuahua, through the Centro de Derechos Humanos de las Mujeres (Women’s Human Rights Center, CEDEHM), the call “Expressing hope” (Plasmando esperanzas) was announced, which seeks to create a space of collective memory for the family members of disappeared individuals.

The call seeks to involve society in general in the creation of a glass mosaic mural, showing the serious problem of disappearances of people in the state of Chihuahua, the pain experienced by those who are looking for their loved ones and the hope of finding them.

This contest is open to anyone who wishes to participate and will continue to receive proposals until July 1st, 2022; the winner will be announced on July 8th and will receive a cash prize, as well as the opportunity to collaborate and participate to create and install their proposal together with the group of family members of disappeared individuals that CEDEHM accompanies.

In the face of serious human rights violations, such as forced disappearance, it is essential to create spaces for collective memory that help us remember and demand that these tragedies stop.

According to official records, in Chihuahua there at least 3,477 disappeared people; society must get involved to demand concrete actions that bring us closer to resolving this serious situation.

The loss of the disappeared has left a void in all of us.

Until we find them!
